Amazon Kindle Tablet

Amazon has announced that it will release details of its Kindle tablet, dubbed the Kindle Fire tablet, on the 28th. The Amazon Kindle Tablet is supposed to be a 7" color tablet, with a backlit multi-touch display. In this case multi-touch is only supposed to mean 2 touch points, not 10 like the Ipad has.

The resolution of the screen is unknown but if I had to hazard a guess, I would say it was 1024 by 680.

The OS will be an extremely modified version of Android, reportedly a version prior to 2.1. The modifications will make it extremely tied into Amazons online services.

For example, the media player is Amazons Cloud player, and the reader is the Kindle app. The device will come with a very small amount of internal storage, supposedly only 6GB, which will make users very reliant on Amazons cloud storage service.

The Fire Tablet is also supposed to come with a free Amazon Prime membership, which costs $79 per year, and offers free unlimited 2 day shipping, and Movie streaming at no extra cost.

That will be a major incentive to buy this tablet, but the best part is the rumored $250 pricetag. Combine that with a small form factor, micro USB port, and a dual core TI OMAP processor, and you suddenly find yourself in a position to take on the big boys. That's all for now, but as soon as I have some more information, or have confirmed anything, I will write it here so please check back soon.

Update

Amazon has officially unveiled its Kindle Fire Tablet. It has all of the features listed above, with a few differences. First of all the price will not be $250, it will be $199, and will come with a 30 day free trial to Amazon Prime. It also has 8GB of internal storage, plus the screen resolution is 1024 by 600. Amazon also announced the Kindle touch, which is an E-ink reader with a touch screen, and will sell for $99.
